'I violated lockdown orders, stay away from me': MP cop writes on forehead of migrant worker

A video of a Madhya Pradesh police officer writing "Maine lockdown ka ullanghan kiya hai, mujhse door rahna (I have violated lockdown restrictions, keep away from me)," on the forehead of a labourer in Gorihar area of Chhatarpur has gone viral.

According to The Indian Express, the incident happened when three labourers were returning from Uttar Pradesh. The workers were directed to the primary health centre by the police for medical examination.

While they were waiting for a doctor, a senior inspector scolded them for violating the lockdown and wrote the inscription on one of the labourer’s forehead.

13 lakh Railway employees to donate one day's salary to PM-CARES 

Thirteen lakh employees of the Indian Railways will donate their one day's salary to PM-CARES emergency situation relief fund to fight COVID-19. A day's salary of all 13 employees is amounting Rs  Rs 151 crore. In addition to that, Railways Minister Piyush Goyal, MoS Suresh Angadi will also donate one month's salary to the fund to fight the pandemic.

Boris Johnson writes to every UK household urging people to stay at home 

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who has self-isolated after testing positive for the novel coronavirus last week, wrote to every household in the United Kingdom, urging people to stay at home in a bid to contain the spread of the contagious infection.

"We know things will get worse before they get better. But we are making the right preparations, and the more we all follow the rules, the fewer lives will be lost and the sooner life can return to normal," Johnson wrote in his letter, addressing the 30 million households across the United Kingdom.

He further thanked the healthcare workers and wrote, "It has been truly inspirational to see our doctors, nurses and other carers rise magnificently to the needs of the hour. Thousands of retired doctors and nurses are returning to the NHS – and hundreds of thousands of citizens are volunteering to help the most vulnerable. That is why, at this moment of national emergency, I urge you, please, to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives." 

According to British media reports, the country has reported over 17,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus and more than 1,000 deaths.

Coronavirus cases in Pakistan rise to 1,526

The number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan reached 1,526 on Sunday, amid officials stepping up efforts to contain the fast spreading deadly viral infection.

According to the Ministry of Health, Punjab -- the emerging hotspot of COVID-19 in Pakistan -- recorded 558 cases, followed by 481 in Sindh, 188 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 138 in Balochistan, 116 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 43 in Islamabad and 2 in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

So far 13 people have died, 25 recovered and 11 are in a critical conditions.

Ghaziabad couple tests positive for coronavirus

A couple in Ghaziabad's Mohan Nagar has tested positive for coronavirus.

The woman works in Noida while the husband works in Gurugram.

They have been admitted to the isolation word in Ghaziabad district hospital.

India reported 3 more deaths on Sunday with one death each in Kashmir, Maharashtra and Gujarat. So far 21 new cases have come to fore today.

Centre directs States to restrict movement of migrant workers across borders, ensure food and shelter

In a notice to all states, the Centre issued a directive asking authorities to enforce a strict lockdown as the novel coronavirus gripped the nation. It has also expressed concern over the exodus of migrant labourers occurring across state borders, asking the chief secretaries and DGPs to ensure effective sealing of borders. 

"States were directed to ensure there is no movement of people across cities or on highways. Only movement of goods should be allowed. DMs and SPs should be made personally responsible for implementation of these directions which have been issued under the DM Act," read the statement.

The release further mentioned that that adequate arrangements for food and shelter of poor and needy people including migrant laborers be made at the place of their work.

States have been also told to ensure timely payment of wages to labourers at their place of work without any cut. House Rent should not be demanded from the labourers for this period. Action should be taken against those who are asking labourers or students to vacate the premises.

"Those who travel during the period of lockdown will be subjected to a minimum 14 days of quarantine in government quarantine facilities," read th press release.

Tally in Maharashtra 196, says health minister

Rajesh Tope, the Maharashtra health minister said that there were 196 cases of coronavirus reported in Maharashtra. The break up of cases is as follows: Mumbai and Thane Region - 107,Pune - 37,Nagpur -13, Ahmednagar -3, Ratnagiri -1, Aurangabad -1, Yavatmal - 3, Miraj - 25, Satara - 2,Sindhudurg - 1, Kolhapur - 1, Jalgaon - 1,Buldhana - 1. 

Accordinng to ANI, the minister also said that 34 people had been discharged from  various hospitals till date, bringing the number of active cases to 155..

Udhhav Thackeray urges migrant workers in Maharashtra to stay, says state will ensure to provide food and water 

Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday assured that his government will take care of all migrant labourers and provide them basic necessities like food and water.

The ''Shiv Bhojan'' scheme offering meal at Rs 10 will now be available at Rs 5 from 1 April, he said in a webcast.

Thackeray said the state has already set up 163 centres across the state to provide food and water to the migrant labourers.

"The state will protect them and provide food, but they should not leave their place. I understand that they are anxious but they should not leave. They should avoid increasing the risk of infection, he said.

Fresh case emerges in Bihar, state's count at 11

A woman tested positive for COVID-19 in Bihar on Sunday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 11, an official said in Patna.

Among those who have tested positive, as many as six had come into contact with a deceased patient, hailing from Munger district, who died at AIIMS, Patna, on Saturday last week, a day before his test reports confirmed he had COVID 19.

106 new cases in last 24 hours, total now 979

 
"Till now there have been 979 COVID19 confirmed cases in the country, including 25 deaths. In the last 24 hours, 106 new positive cases and six deaths have been reported,"  said  Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health  and Family Welfare during a press briefing.
 

Over 35,000 tests carried out till now: ICMR

"Till now, over 35,000 tests have been carried out and 30 percent of testing capacity have bee utilised. There are 113 ICMR labs and 47 private labs have been given approval," said an ICMR official.

 

States to quarantine migrant workers for 14 days

States have already been directed to quarantine migrants workers for 14 days, said Lav Aggarwal.
