You can haggle with the billing staff about the bill, but honestly just pay it off and take this as an experience.

Urgent Care's are much much cheaper than an ER, try to find a few urgentcare's close by for prep sake.

Urgent cares are not 24 hrs, so after hrs ER okkate dikku.

You have yearly deductible and out of pocket maximum , if you meet that you will not pay anything 

I had chest pain one day and went to ER , in the ER for 12 hours , multiple scans , total 18 k paid by the insurance. Nothing out of pocket. 
 

if you can’t pay you can call the billing and ask them for discount 

they can do 20 to 30 % discount , if you don’t have SSN you can let it go to collections and decide further

if you don't stay overnight at the ER, they charge an extra $500 !!

if your income is under 6x the poverty level, you can request for fin assistance at the hospital and they give discount up to 100% (you have to furnish proof of your income, bank statements, etc). just contact them or browse their website for details
