Are religious conversions bad?

Good that you agree that other religions don’t provide anything more than Hinduism and it is all done to influence people. @Pillipilla here is your answer. There is no honesty in conversions just selfishness.

I just said that christianity has not cured India off its caste. Higher caste xians treat sc/st christians with disdain. it is true.

I don't understand what kind of honesty do you expect in conversions. It is literally their job. Some sects of xianity's sole purpose in life is to propagate their religion and convert.

sure they get some political patronage, but that's not their only goal.

People convert to seek a better life. If they get a better life or not is secondary, but they should be able to, especially if they are trying to get rid of caste discrimination.

they cannot get rid of caste discrimination. most successful christian converts are converts from upper or land owning castes.

among converted Christians there is discrimination within themselves, caste stays irrespective of conversion .

So shouldn't they be allowed to have reservations.  Afterall, the point of reservations is to get rid of caste based discrimination.

They should be absolutely allowed to have reservations. conversion changes nothing., except perhaps give them some self confidence and new vigor for their community, because most conversions take place in huge groups. almost everyone in the group converts.

According to Indian law, if they officially convert to Christianity, they lose their caste based reservations. They don’t get to keep it.

So, they aren't really converting but faking that they're converting. Atleast they get to keep their reservation. Religion has no use but reservation does.

the way 'HIndu' is defined in constitution, everyone is Hindu as long as they don't claim to be muslims, christians, sikhs, parsis etc. lol.

you can't have the cake and eat it too.

taking away reservations for converted sounds good as rhetoric, but when it happens, you'll notice a huge drop in Hindu percentage in India. haha..It has serious political consequences.

It has use for political parties though. What people are believing is important. A Christian or Muslim will only vote for centre left/left parties. A Hindu can vote for centre left or centre right parties. A SC hindu can be persuaded to vote for parties like TDP, but a SC converted Christian cannot be persuaded to vote for TDP- just an example.

He's a stikler for rule of law it seems, only when it suits him.

it was law too, to distribute lands to dalits and obcs, but majority of these lands were usurped by reddys, and in most states it was not even implemented.

in the only state that implemented it - kerala, we see good results.

Why does it matter, what they are doing isn't illegal. Unless you change the law ofcourse. If you are talking about ethics, political parties aren't supposed to not cater to religious and caste groups, they're anyway. How can you blame people that convert? You get what you sow.
